The Benefits Discovered with Ongoing Research

Acai berries that come in the form of freeze dried fuit pulp has been found to contain the mild ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2 with a better effect on COX-1. These enzymes are important when it comes to acute and chronic inflammation, both of which are targeted by most of the anti-inflammatory medications available.

Another great find was that the lower concentrations of the freeze dried pulp were found to be stimulating to macrophages in vitro. Macrophages are also known as white blood cells that are an important component to that of the human immune system. The macrophages found in freeze dried Acai berry pulp were found to inhibit the production of nitric oxide that had been induced by the potent inflammatory inducer, which is part of the cell membrane of certain bacteria. This in effect increases the concentration as the amount of Acai berries increased.

A study completed at the University of Florida showed that the Acai berry fractions containing polyphenolics could reduce proliferation of HL-60 leukemia cells in vitro. This was more than likely due to the increased rate of rapid cell death as fractions were also found to activate caspase-3 which is an enzyme important in apoptosis (rapid cell death) which was inversely correlated to the cell death that took place.

Due to deep pigmentation, orally administered the Acai berry has been tested in other areas like as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging of the gastrointestinal system of the human body. Its anthocyanins have been identified as a characteristic for stability as a natural food colouring agent.

What are Polyphenols?

Polyphenols are chemical substances found in vegetables. Their phenolic reactions produce gelatines, alkaloids and other proteins. These polyphenols are responsible for the very distinctive colouring that some plants like that of the Acai palm, the blue berry and red wine. Polyphenols can provide antioxidant health benefits.

What are Anthocyanins?

Anthocyanins are one of the more potent forms of polyphenols. Anthocyanin has been proven to stop, reverse and improve the symptoms of many degenerative diseases which are inflicted upon the general population. They are found in various fruits and have a unique chemical structure that makes them up to 8 times more potent than that of vitamin C.

Acai berries contain highly concentrated forms of anthocyanins, infact it has the most forms. This is a result shown after intense research. The anthocyanin content found in the Acai berry is proven to be 35 times the amount found in a glass of red wine, volume to volume when tested in an ORAL analysis (measure of capacity).

Cyanidin 3 glucoside a primary anthocyanins in the Acai berry help in the reversal of age related neurological deficits found in humans.

What are Phytochemicals?

Phytochemicals are also known as phytonutrients which are the matrix of protective living matter made of nutrients, vitamins and minerals to protect plants in uncertain environments.
