Acai Replaces Wheatgrass in Blenders at Juice Bars

Sitting at a cafe table in a chic Manhattan fitness club, Kacy Duke takes a sip of a purplish-pink smoothie made with bananas, juices and acai, a fruit from the Amazon that fans say helps boost energy and lower cholesterol. "This is good," says Ms. Duke, a personal trainer who drinks about six of them a week.

Wheatgrass, protein shakes -- so 2002. At juice bars and health stores around the country, the hip new taste is acai, (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) a grape-size, deep-purple berry that grows atop
palm trees in the Brazilian jungle. In the two years since it hit the U.S., sales have jumped fivefold to $2.5 million. "People drive out of their way to get it," says Brandon Gough, the company's vice president of marketing. Even non-health types are catching on: Restaurants are
serving it with dinner entrées.

Fans say the fruit (which comes to the U.S. as frozen pulp) not only tastes good, but also is good for you -- packed with anthocyanins, the same antioxidants that give red wine its health benefits. And, in a hat trick of health-bar chic, it's good for the Amazon, too, because it's collected by local families who can earn as much as $1,000 during the December-to-August harvest season (twice as much as they can usually make). "It gives them income and another land use besides cutting down the trees and raising cattle," says Chris Kilham, who teaches ethno botany at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Of course, the fruit is just the latest exotic newcomer looking for a place in U.S. produce aisles -- remember the star fruit? And the acai's newfound cachet would probably take a lot of Brazilians by surprise: There, acai, whose taste has been likened to blueberry with a hint of chocolate, typically is eaten as a pudding like mush over bananas for breakfast.

As to the health claims: "It is very nutritional," says Elisabetta Politi, a nutritionist with the Duke University Diet and Fitness Center in Durham, N.C. Ms. Duke, who not only drinks the stuff, but also has mixed it into a homemade mask for her skin. "I thought because of all of the antioxidants, it would be good," she says. (The result: "I glowed," she says.)

Acai The Brazilian Miracle

You may have noticed a new kid on the chilled fruit juice block at your local supermarket or at your favourite smoothie bar, it's called acai, pronounced ah-sigh-ee and it comes from the Amazon region of Brazil where it is known as 'The Tree of Life'.

This fantastic tree, a member of the palm family and related to the saw palmetto, grows in the flood plains of the mighty Amazon river where it reaches over 20 meters high. The berries grow prolifically along branches that spring out of the top and look a bit like 'Sideshow Bobs'' hair and are gathered by the indigenous people who scramble up the trunk to cut the berry laden boughs and then take them to the market.

Speed is of the essence because the berries start to loose their potency as soon as they get picked so they need to be frozen as soon as possible.

It had been a popular drink in the Amazon district for hundreds of years but came to light when a cafe in Rio de Janeiro started selling it. Across the street was a Jujitsu school, run by Carlos Gracie, who tried some and insisted on his pupils drinking it to boost their performance. The pupils were very fit looking people and they said that it was because they drank acai. The surfers picked up on this and its reputation grew and grew until it went international.

The berries are not the only good thing on this tree, the Brazilians also use the stems of the leaves which are harvested as palm hearts and the bark and roots are used in medicine for a wide variety of ailments from anemia to muscle pains and worms.

This little purple berry is packed with anti oxidants such as phytochemicals, polyphenols and anthocyanins, fatty acids omega 6 and 9, calcium, proteins and fibre which are all great for a healthy life. It is the anthocyanins that are, perhaps, creating the most interest because of large amounts present in the fruit. These are the chemicals that are found in the dark purple colour in plants and came to prominence as the healthy ingredient in red wine that helps to protect
the heart and there are so many anthocyanins in acai berries, they haven't all been researched yet.

Early research has shown it has been able to destroy large numbers of leukaemia cells in the laboratory but a lot more investigation is needed before any conclusions can be drawn over its full medicinal properties.

As with most of the purple berries they are useful in the fight against a wide range of ailments such as cancer, heart disease, cholesterol, macular degeneration, Alzheimers' disease, infections of the urinary tract and have anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. Unlike other berries, these are just packed with an abundance of health giving ingredients which really does allow them to use the name super food.

Something this good usually turns out to taste like old socks, but acai juice is really nice, a berry flavour with an after taste tinged with chocolate although when sold it is mixed with other fruit juice. To ensure you are getting a good quantity of this wonder berry, check the list of ingredients and buy the one with acai listed as the highest constituent. It will probably be more expensive but well worth the extra cost.

Another way of buying acai berries is to get it as a frozen paste which you can use in making your own smoothies or as a topping for your breakfast cereal or even ice cream.
Many foods have been hyped as the greatest but the acai really does appear to have earned the name super food.

What is Monavie?

While looking around the internet for Acai berry juices you will more than likely come across a product called Monavie. What is Monavie? Why is this so popular? Throughout this article hopefully you will learn what makes Monavie so popular and what Monavie is exactly.

Monavie is a product made up of a proprietary blend of 19 different fruits. This blend is what makes the juice so popular. There are various aspects of this blend like the high ORAC score, the antioxidants contained within the blend and many other health benefits associated with the Acai berry fruit juice.

Monavie is a product that was released in January 2005 by Dallin Larson and his team of researchers. The break through that Dallin Larson and his team came across showed not only potential but something that could potentially change the world of Superfoods and the health industry.

There is four products available on the market made by Monavie these are broken up in to a couple of main products which are Monavie original and Monavie Active. Both of these products come in a juice and in a gel pack. The only difference between the juice and the gel essentially is the packaging and the amount of Monavie blend available in each package.

Monavie is distributed not through the normal channels of a retail store or a wholesale company located in capital cities but rather through distributors who can not only just supply the product but provide you with an application form to sign up for Monavie.

Why would you want to sign up as a distributor of Monavie? There are really 2 reasons which are not only logical but they are also beneficial to yourself and your family. The first is so you can not only purchase Monavie yourself but you can get the benefits of the price difference between buying retail from the distributor and the second reason is so you can supply your friends, family or even associates this product which has many great health benefits. The best part about this distributorship is the fact that once you reach a certain level within the Monavie distributors system Monavie will send you out a new Mercedes for FREE!

Have a read through a website which is full of testimonials, articles and other helpful information about the Acai berry and Monavie. If you have some spare time take the time to watch the 19 minute video from Dr Lou Niles who talks about Monavie and the health benefits obtained from having the Acai berry and other fruits as a part of your diet. Monavie Business Opportunity

While working for a long time on the internet in regards to developing websites for various organizations I have found myself watching many business opportunities arising. Some of course come and go, some stay for a long time and others just fail.

While developing sites for the various organizations which I wont mention due to privacy reasons, I came across a product from a company called "Monavie" which contained the Acai berry. While this site (magicberry.blogspot.com) talks alot about the Acai berry all of which is helpful information. I started to talk an interest in the Monavie Original product which was a juice that contained the Acai berry as one of its key ingredients.

I did find myself asking the question "how can someone make money from a product like this?" then I found myself learning about this Monavie business opportunity and how different people have made their fortunes from this product alone. The problem was how could so many people make money from a business opportunity with a company selling only a couple of products, most of which starts at around $40 per bottle.

After reading up on Magic Berry about the Monavie business opportunity I noticed not only was there 8 ways to potentially make money from this product line but it also showed to me that there is an easier way to make money. Sure you read heaps of sites about how "THIS REALLY WORKS.. BLAH BLAH BLAH" and I agree in most cases as you would be thinking "Yea right... AS IF THIS WOULD WORK!!!"

When I had finished reading what I could about the Acai berry and Monavie which appears to be a market leader when it comes to the Acai berry juices available on the market I soon learned and realised that it isnt so much a business opportunity but a way to make some money from referring friends, family and whoever else was interested in this great product and its unique features. I guess in some ways you could call it an affiliate marketing concept but you would be wrong, you are probably thinking "ok if it isnt another affiliate marketing concept, then it has to be a pyramid scheme..." Well guess again you are wrong!

The truth is Monavie offer a business opportunity based off of a lifestyle choice and at the same time uses a multi-level marketing concept to market this product. This choice is actually quite simple. You can do one of about 3 things. 1) Go down to the local supermarket and buy a "fuit juice" which is really just sugar water 2) you could go to the local fruit shed and buy all the ingredients to make yourself a fruit juice that you have seen a recipe for out of a recipe book or 3) you can make the best decision when it comes to a juice and do what myself and millions of other people have, which is purchase Monavie Original. While this is not just the best choice it is a lifestyle and smart health choice.

Now out of these 3 options I would have to say numbers 1 and 2 are not a wise choice. I would even have to say that option 3 is a good choice but not the smartest. Why? Monavie give you the opportunity to purchase Monavie and at the same time set yourself up for ways to make some extra money from promoting it to others by signing up as a distributor of Monavie. That is exactly what I have done. I get the benefits of signing up as a Monavie Distributor, I get a case of Monavie every month (4 Bottles) and I also get a discount on each order. Instead of paying the retail of $40 plus freight I get it for $30 per bottle plus friend which is usually about 10-15 dollars.

Monavie's opportunity has helped me out in this way and I can even see the potential income I could earn from this product. I would strongly recommend you check out the Magic Berry website and learn what you can about the Acai berry, it is very useful. Once you have read through the site I am sure you will find yourself wanting to sign up for Monavie at the very least if not sign up as a distributor of Monavie.

Good luck and have fun with learning about the Acai berry and the Monavie business opportunity.
